INNOVATIONS

 

         I once saw a photograph of a sizeable marlin purportedly taken by a spearo using a single band pole spear and trailing line. I mention this only to illustrate the fact that virtually any fish can be taken by any speargun in the hands of a skilled diver given the right circumstances and a little luck. That said, speargun builders have been steadily slanting the playing field in order to increase our chances of landing such fish in the face of less than perfect circumstances.

        As a hobbyist gun builder myself, I stand on the shoulders of such designers as Jay Riffe and Steve Alexander among others. Their gun designs are leaps ahead of their predecessors.

        The following are perhaps less important advances, but innovations that I have added nonetheless:
